Who are we as PTA?
PTA is an organization for parents, educators, and community members. We work together to decide on programs and projects to benefit our children. Every member who joins PTA helps not only his or her own child but EVERY child. Franklin Smith Parent Teacher Association works together with the administration to make our school great! This organization is a great way to get involved in your child’s school. We hope you will join and help!

(Vice President of Membership) Being part of PTA as a teacher and a parent has been such a rewarding experience. PTA provides so many meaningful events for our students. We have an amazing group of individuals that work together to plan events for our school. We are always looking for more members who would like to contribute to FSE. |
Katie Bubalo
(VP of Community Service) Hello! My name is Katie Bubalo and I am a mom to three boys. My oldest Isaac is in 4rd grade this year, and I also have a 1st grader, Ellis. I stay at home with my youngest, Finn. I grew up in St. Louis and moved to the KC area after graduating college. My husband, Stephen, grew up here in Blue Springs. I joined the PTA when my oldest came to Franklin Smith and have really enjoyed volunteering for events and meeting other parents! |
What events do we put on?
Art Auction: FSE's Library Media Specialist, Amy Baker, works with every student in the school to create a unique and beautiful ceramic plate for their class. These amazing plates are auctioned off at the Grade Level Performances.
Book Fair: Of the two Book Fairs held at FSE yearly, PTA holds the first one for one week in the Fall. Grandparents visiting during Grandparents Day have the wonderful opportunity to share a love of books with the younger generation. In addition to raising funds for the PTA, the school library earns free books! Suckers are available for students to purchase and potentially win free books or posters. Volunteers are needed throughout the week for set up and to help run the cash registers.
Carnival: FSE PTA is bringing the Carnival back to the school day! Open to all FSE students during the school day, organized by our amazing LAMP teachers! Every student will be able to participate and win prizes playing fun games! Volunteers will be needed to help out on this super fun day!
Sweetheart Dance:
Once a year, FSE PTA invites FSE students & their families and/or escorts, to get dressed in all of their finery for an enchanting night of dancing & dance activities. A sweet treat & punch beverage is included for each guest in the ticket price. Tickets must be purchased by the deadline, so there is an accurate head count for PTA planning. All ticket proceeds help to fund this & other PTA sponsored events throughout the year. Volunteers are needed for set up and during the dance to help the magic run smoothly.
Field Day: Field Day is a favorite for students and adults alike. Held towards the end of the school year, the LAMP teachers plan a fun-filled day of activities and games. PTA provides each student with a Field Day t-shirt, and helps to gather donations needed for the day. Volunteers are an essential part of pulling off this action-filled event.
Grandparents Day: Grandparents start the day with a PTA provided breakfast of pastries, juice, and coffee before they join their students for a fun day of class and a school provided lunch. PTA arranges shuttles to transport Grandparents to and from their vehicles. Memories can be captured for a lifetime at the photo backdrops, and by shopping at the Book Fair. Volunteers can help by assisting with breakfast in the morning and with the photo stations.
Holiday Shoppe: FSE PTA opens the Holiday Shoppe for one week each year before the Winter Break. So many affordable gifts to choose from, your student has the opportunity to do some of their own holiday shopping during the school day. Profits from the Holiday Shoppe go to help FSE families in need during the holiday season.
Back to School Bash:
Once a year, FSE PTA invites FSE students & their families to join in a special activity planned just for them. Come meet other FSE families for some socializing and sweets! All ticket proceeds help to fund this & other PTA sponsored events throughout the year.
Skate Nights: FSE PTA has partnered with Rink Ratz to host a number of FSE family skate nights throughout the year. A fantastic opportunity to mingle with other FSE families, your children's school friends, & to make memories that will last a lifetime, all while supporting the school. Rink Ratz very generously donates 50% of their profits from these skate nights to the PTA. As an added bonus, by donning your Spirit Wear you will receive a free treat from the concessions!
Winter Party/Spring Celebration: FSE PTA hosts a Winter Party & aSpring Celebration for all grade levels.
Teacher Appreciation: Teachers & Staff work hard all year for our kids. PTA wants to show our appreciation for all that they do by pampering them a little! During Fall Parent Teacher Conferences, PTA provides either a lunch or dinner for those hard at work. In the Spring they get a whole week of showering with gift card prizes, a variety of snacks, meals, & drinks. Parent and local business donations are an integral part of showing the Teachers how grateful we all are.
Trunk or Treat: This free family event is for FSE families, Plaza Heights families, & the community to trick-or-treat safely. Plaza Heights has very generously partnered with FSE PTA to bring this event to our community. Volunteers are needed to decorate their vehicles for Halloween & pass out candy to all of the little ghouls & goblins. Candy is provided by the trunkers, & through parent and community donations that PTA collects beforehand. There's family-friendly music, and concessions are available at a reasonable price. All food proceeds go to benefit the students at FSE.
Vendor Fairs: FSE PTA coordinates two Craft & Vendor Fairs each year, one during the holidays and one in the spring. The funds raised by booth fees, table rentals, raffles, and concessions all go to benefit our FSE students. It's a wonderful opportunity to support our local businesses, crafters, & artisans.....and to get some fabulous shopping done!
ButterBraids: Delicious Butter Braids can be purchased via order form during this very profitable PTA fundraiser held near the beginning of the school year. Your order arrives frozen for your convenience and is available to be picked up on the date provided. These make for quick tasty breakfasts, an after dinner treat, to enjoy at your holiday festivities. or any time! Coming in a variety of flavors, there is truly something for everyone.
Pastries with Parents: Parents get to come enjoy breakfast with their students before school. PTA provides a yummy spread of pastries, fruit, juice, milk, and coffee. Families can capture the memory at the photo backdrop.
Reflections: The PTA Reflections Contest is open to students of all ages, encouraging them to display their talents in the Arts. A different theme is chosen yearly. The students are to "reflect" on this theme, and then create an original work in the areas of dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, or visual arts.
Mustang Stampede: Our annual fun run where students request donors to sponsor them. This event is one of our biggest fundraisers!
Silent Auction: This event takes place in our library during Family Academic Night. It's a great opportunity to get a deal on items and experiences from around KC all while supporting FSE!
5th Grade & Dare Graduation
Spirit Wear: The PTA designs and organizes the sales of FSE Spirit wear each year.
Community Service Projects: Throughout the school year, we organize community service projects for families to participate in throughout the FSE community and Kansas City area.
